Hungarian highway vignette D2 fee category
Most of Hungary's highways are toll roads, which can be paid for with an electronic highway vignette. The e-vignette must always be purchased before driving onto the toll road, as a network of cameras is set up to check whether the vehicle has a valid road use permit.
Depending on the type of vehicle, highway vignettes can be purchased in four different fee categories: D1m, D1, D2 and U.
Vehicles in the D2 fee category
In the official entries in the vehicle registration certificate*, the letters "J "and "S.1." fields in the vehicle registration document will be used to determine the fee category to which the vehicle belongs.
The following fields and their contents must be taken into account in our registration certificate for category D2:
Field “J”: M1 and “S.1.” field: more than 7
When driving a passenger car that is in the M1 vehicle category but can carry more than 7 passengers, the vehicle is in the D2 fee category.
Field “J”: N1
If the vehicle is coded N1 in field "J" of its registration certificate, it is a lorry and will be placed in fee category D2 if its gross weight does not exceed 3.5 tons.

Daily, one-day highway vignette
The one-day e-vignette is valid from the moment of purchase until 23:59 on the day of purchase for all toll roads in Hungary. For advance purchases, it is valid from 0:00 to 23:59 on the selected day.
Weekly (10-Day) Hungarian E-vignette
The weekly highway vignette also entitles the holder to use all toll roads in Hungary and is valid for the starting date indicated by the purchaser and for a further 9 days, for a total of 10 consecutive calendar days, until 23:59 on the 10th day.
D2- Weekly highway vignette purchase
Monthly and several months highway vignettes
Monthly e-vignettes are valid on all toll roads in Hungary from the starting date indicated by the customer until 23:59 on the day corresponding to the starting date of the following month; if this day is missing in the month of expiry, until 23:59 on the last day of the month. The several months vignette can also be a cost-saving solution, as it provides up to +4-6 days of additional entitlement on top of the monthly entitlements.

County highway vignette
Unlike the other vignettes, the county vignette has territorial limits, as it is only valid within the county you have purchased and up to the first junction in the direction of the bordering counties. The advantage is that it can be bought at a favourable price and is valid until 31 January of the year following the year in question, so you can travel for up to 13 months for as little as HUF 13 780.
National highway vignette
It is valid until 31 January of the year following the year in question, so if you buy a vignette during a pre-purchase or in January, you can use it for up to 13 months on all toll roads in Hungary.

How much does the highway vignette fine cost in Hungary?
The highway vignette must always be purchased before travelling on the toll section! Missing the vignette will result in a penalty of HUF 26 640 if paid within 60 days of receipt of the penalty and HUF 91 780 if paid after 60 days.
If I am towing with a vehicle with a D2 fee category, do I need to buy a highway vignette for the trailer too?
Yes, if the towing vehicle is in tariff category D2, you must also buy a highway vignette for the trailer too. In this case, you must select the e-vignette for the desired period of validity for the trailer in tariff category U.
When I bought a vignette, I messed up my license plate details, what can I do?
When entering the license plate number, it is important to be careful, as any misspelling (misspelled letter, number or capital letter) means that you do not have a valid vignette for the vehicle and may be fined for using the toll road. However, it is possible to correct the number plate details at the NÚSZ Zrt. customer service offices by paying a fee of HUF 1470.
