Changes in Hungarian highway vignette system in 2025

The year 2025 has not brought as many changes to Hungarian highway toll vignettes as the previous year. However, along with an increase in e-vignette prices, fines for non-compliance have also risen. As usual, changes in prices are governed by the information outlined in the 45/2020. (XI. 28.) ITM decree. According to this regulation, the following toll vignette prices will be in effect for 2025:

The above amounts are the gross fees, that is, they contain the value added tax. Prices may change due to exchange rate fluctuations!
Highway vignette fines in Hungary 2025
The highway vignette must always be purchased before entering a toll road, and failure to do so will result in a fine. As of January 1st, the fines have increased, with the base fine (if paid within 60 days) set at 26,640 HUF, while the increased fine (if paid after 60 days) amounts to 91,780 HUF.
However, it is important to know that drivers have a 60-minute grace period during which they can still purchase the highway toll sticker within 60 minutes after entering the toll road, thereby avoiding a fine.
Which vignette is the most economical in 2025?
Before purchasing a highway vignette, it is worth carefully considering which option best covers your entire trip, even if you are not staying in Hungary for the entire duration. For short trips, it’s recommended to choose stickers with shorter validity:
- Daily (1-day) highway vignette: Suitable if you are only using toll roads on a single calendar day, and your travel does not exceed midnight (00:00) of that day.
- Weekly (10-days) e-vignette: Ideal if your trip fits within 10 calendar days.
- Monthly vignette: If your trip exceeds 10 days or you plan to stay in Hungary for an extended period. It may be more economical to purchase a monthly vignette instead of two daily ones, provided your travel dates fall within 30 days.
