Daily e-vignette in Hungary
A Hungarian one-day vignette may be practical when the entire motorway journey takes place within a single calendar day. It is important to note that it is not valid for 24 hours. Therefore, if you plan to use Hungary’s toll road network after midnight, a 10-day vignette may offer better value.
Weekly, or 10-day, Hungarian e-vignette
When both the outward and return journeys take place within a period of 10 days, the Hungarian 10-day vignette is the appropriate choice.
Monthly e-vignette in Hungary
When a trip lasts longer than 10 days and toll roads will be used several times during that period, the safest choice is a monthly Hungarian e-vignette.
What information should we check when purchasing a Hungarian e-vignette?
The Hungarian e-vignette is linked to the vehicle’s registration number, so no physical sticker is issued. However, before making payment, it is advisable to check the vignette details again:
- Registration number: Are all letters and numbers entered correctly?
- Country of registration: Has the vehicle’s country of registration been entered correctly?
- Toll category: Have we selected the correct D1, D2, D1M, or U category for the vehicle?
- Start of validity: Have we selected the correct date?
- Vignette type: Has a daily, 10-day, monthly, or other type of entitlement been added to the basket?
What happens if we accidentally use a motorway in Hungary without a vignette?
Under Hungarian regulations, the e-vignette must be purchased before entering a toll road. It is therefore not advisable to assume that the required entitlement can be purchased at the first rest area or petrol station, or at the end of the journey.
However, a so-called 60-minute rule applies to motorists who make an honest mistake. If we accidentally enter Hungary’s toll road network without a valid e-vignette, we may still purchase the correct entitlement within a maximum of 60 minutes from the time of entry. This is not a general option for paying retrospectively, but a rule intended to correct accidental entry onto a toll road.
