With motorhome on Hungarian highways

Hungary’s highways and expressways are mostly toll roads, which require the purchase of a highway vignette. These vignettes are available in four toll categories based on the vehicle's passenger capacity and total weight.

Camper Van Highway Vignette Fee Categories

If the following conditions apply to your caravan, the respective vignette is required:

No Vignette Required If:

A caravan under 3.5 tons is towed by a passenger car in the D1 fee category.

U Fee Category Vignette Recommended If:

A caravan under 3.5 tons is towed by a vehicle in the D2 fee category.

D1 Highway Vignette Recommended If:

• The motorhome’s registration certificate “J” field indicates M1 or M1G.
• The total weight is up to 3.5 tons.
• It is suitable for transporting up to 7 people.

D2 Highway Vignette Recommended in the Following Two Cases:

• The motorhome’s registration certificate “J” field indicates M1 or M1G (16 or 21).
• The total weight is up to 3.5 tons.
• It is suitable for transporting 8-9 people.

Or

• The motorhome’s registration certificate “J” field indicates N1 or N1G.
• The total weight is up to 3.5 tons.
• It is suitable for transporting up to 9 people.

Note: Motorhomes exceeding 3.5 tons are classified as heavy goods vehicles and require payment through the HU-GO electronic toll system instead of a highway vignette.

Towing with a Motorhome on the Highway

If towing with a motorhome on the highway, an additional U type highway vignette is required for the trailer if the towing vehicle's vignette fee category is D2.
