Hungarian truck stops in 2024

As in most European countries, the movement of heavy vehicles is restricted in Hungary as well. Considering truck stops during our travels can be a factor in deciding when to set out, as traffic may become faster and safer during these periods.

Which vehicles does the truck stop apply to?

In Hungary, regulations govern the restriction of truck traffic, stating that during designated periods, it is prohibited for any goods vehicle, tractor, agricultural tractor, or slow-moving vehicle with a maximum permissible weight exceeding 7.5 tons to travel.

When is it in effect?

During the summer period, from 1 July to 31 August, no traffic is allowed on weekends from 15.00 on Saturday (if it is not a working day) until 22.00. If any of the days before the weekend are public holidays, the restriction must be applied continuously from 8 a.m. on the first day to 10 p.m. on the last day.

For the remainder of the year, from September 1st to June 30th, travel is prohibited from the day before the public holiday until 10 p.m. on the last public holiday, i.e., from Friday evening at 10 p.m. to Sunday evening at 10 p.m.

Exceptions to these rules are granted for trucks classified at least as EURO 3 environmental class between November 4th and March 1st.

Faster on the highway, easier with e-vignette!

It's worth taking advantage of truck stops during travels, as fewer slow-moving vehicles will be on the roads. However, don't forget that most Hungarian highways are toll roads, so when planning your trip, it's important to purchase the Hungarian highway vignette as well. The easiest way to do this is through online purchase on the hungary-vignette.eu, where the e-vignette can be purchased in just a few steps in as little as 2 minutes.
