Transfering the highway vignette

Only the National Toll Payment Services Zrt is authorized to transfer the highway vignette from one license plate number to another due to license plate change, theft, damage beyond repair, change of category, an error when providing the license plate number.

Transferring the vignette

If the owner of the vehicle transfers the ownership right to the vehicle during the year or the legal relationship which enables the use of the vehicle ceases, authorization for another vehicle may be requested. In order to amend the license plate number as is necessary for the transfer, you will need to hand in your control slip or the receipt notification and present the new vehicle's registration in order to certify that the vehicle's fee category is the same as that of the previously authorized one, you will also need to present the document certified by the government office of the capital city of Budapest, or the district/county government office or any other document which makes the cessation of the legal relationship possible and the evidentiary personal document attesting that the legal relationship which made the use of roads possible has been terminated.

If the operator of the two concerned vehicles is the same person, then beyond the original control slip, the registration of the two vehicles will be necessary in order to certify the registration of the change of license plate number. The fee of transfer including value-added tax is HUF 1470.

Change of license plate number

If your license plate number has changed, NÚSZ Zrt will amend your license plate number upon request. The procedure is governed by the regulations applying to amendment/transfer, with the provision that the person making the request must certify the fact of the license plate change.

Theft / damage beyond repair

If your vehicle has been stolen or has suffered damage beyond repair then present certification of the fact from police or your insurance company and the NUSZ customer service office will issue you a control slip that is the same as the previous one, with the appropriate fee category and validity period for a service fee of HUF 1470.

Erroneous fee category / amend category

If you have indicated the wrong category, then you may amend the category to the correct one defined by the fee regulation at the NUSZ customer service office for a fee of 1470 Ft along with paying the balance or having the balance paid back to you. For newly issued authorization in the appropriate fee category, the license plate number must match the original license plate number as certified by the vehicle's registration. After a penalty has been issued, amendment of the fee category does not exempt the user from the obligation to pay the penalty.

Wrong license plate number, typos in the license plate number

If the license plate number is wrong or erroneous to the extent of up to 3 characters, it is possible to register the correct license plate number at the NUSZ customer service office with the appropriate amendment. During the procedure you will need to present the vehicle's registration, the control slip attesting the the purchased authorization or the confirmation/receipt notification. Fee of amendment is HUF 1470 per character. In this case, the authorization is valid for the amended license plate number within the full validity period.
If the license plate number in the confirmation of the purchase of your highway vignette is wrong, it must be amended as soon as possible within the validity period.

Wrong country code

If the country code is wrong, it is possible to register the correct country code at the NUSZ customer service office with the appropriate amendment.  During the procedure you will need to present the vehicle's registration, the control slip attesting the the purchased authorization or the confirmation/receipt notification. In this case, the authorization is valid for the amended country code within the full validity period. The service fee  including value-added tax is HUF 1470.
